Just stayed on a rambling holiday. Hotel looks tired but is clean and service is excellent. Tasty and huge breakfasts to start the day, packed lunches, back for tea and cake at 4 pm and delicious 3 course dinners with so much variety. An extra bonus we were not expecting was clean towels every day. I would definitely go again and would recommend this jewel. Forgot to mention that there were about 26 in our group and we all felt we had a brilliant stay.

This place is special, frozen in time and long may it continue. Great beer, pub grub and plenty of history. Preserve these places at all costs.

Used during contract works, prepared pack lunches when working away, my room was en suite, not sure if the others were, but bathroom had shower sink and toilet, all clean. Didn't manage to get back in time for an evening meal but the bar next door was fine for the one night. Would make a good base camp if you want to see other attractions in the area.

We had an evening meal here and the lady behind the bar couldn't have been nicer. The food was great and very good value. I was last here 40+ years ago for the Man v horse race so enjoyed all the photos on the walls.

Stayed here as I was on a walking holiday in the area. Excellent staff and food especially the cakes. The owners and staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to ensure that my stay was extremely pleasant. Real Ale brewed on site which was excellent, ate in the restaurant and especially enjoyed the breakfast. I gave 3 stars for the rooms because the hotel would to some seem dated but I think it added to the character, especially enjoyed a hot bath after a days walking. Will definitely go back for a visit to a lovely town, people and local area.
